Sunday Night Kitchen Adventures

All this time, I thought Ray just didn't like couscous. Turns out that I just make it too bland for him and he says carrots and cashews aren't enough. I told him that's what I do in emergency situations. If the couscous had veggies and more flavor he agreed he would eat it. Awesome.

This is my plate. It has couscous with green, red and yellow bell peppers, onion flavor (gave the onions to Ray), tamari, lots of spicecs and carrots of course. On the side of mine was a 5-bean salad leftover from the other day at lunch from Wild Oats. It was just ok and the couscous complement from Ray was "your couscous is so much better than this Whole Foods stuff". First of all, Wild Oats (which we don't go to often, it's far). Secondly, of course my homemade stuff is better! What you also see (of course) is Seduction Bread.

This is Ray's plate. He has onions on his and his salad was a black bean/corn type salad.

Our plates.
Yep, I'm officially a cone-eater. I like my ice cream straight out of the carton, but Ray loves cones and gave me one of his. Look at my wonderful ice cream...

And these are the treats for the week:
Ingredients: (all organic), rice puffs, kamut puffs, raisins, peanut butter, brown rice syrup, agave nectar, vanilla, cinnamon, coconut, chocolate chips, cashews, almonds, pecans, walnuts, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds. Yum.

A closer look...

And these I tried to copy that WFM sells for $14.99 a pound. No way am I buying them. I just take a sample every time I go. I tried to make these, but they are still (the next day) trying to settle and dry out.
Ingredients:
pecans and cashews, brown rice syrup, maple syrup (Grade A organic, dark), vanilla, sea salt.

I have to go to work now...

great meals! My boyfriend Thomas also prefers only really well flavored cous cous mixed with veggies (preferably mushrooms). And kudos to the no onions! I love hearing that. Yesterday we went out for brunch and I ordered a tofu scramble with spinach (no other veggies come with it, I've had it before) and I said "no green onions on top, please" as they do that..and what comes, a plate of tofu scramble with spinach and tons of onions. So many I had to send it back, and then they read the order..sad, I hate sending food back but hate hate hate onions.

Leslie, those treats look SO yummy!!! (as does the couscous meal)!

I also eat ice-cream straight from the container, just love to have my own pints I can take spoonfuls from whenever! Yum yum! Those cones are great, though, and we also buy the traditional ice-cream cones for our daughter and she loves them.

Jess... we could be great eating friends. I usually give Ray my onions, since I do like the flavor but nothing else about them. I hate sending food back too, I usually do if they mess up way too much or have an animal-source in there.

Me... I didn't make my own bread. It's seduction bread from Whole Foods. I don't have a bread machine (or patience for one) and haven't used my oven in months. I love bakery breads, as I no longer buy anything else.

Harmonia... I'm looking forward to your couscous recipe. I always have it on hand, as it is quick and easy and great in emergency-hunger-situations.

Julie... pressure's on!!!

Dreena... Ice cream is totally better out of the carton! The cones were a nice change of pace, but I would rather just dig in. Around here it's nice because I have soy and Ray has dairy and I can eat out of the carton all I want!!!

Thanks for the comments people!

Oh, and by the way everyone... this was waaaay more food than I can eat. I went couscous-happy and decided my eyes were more hungry than my tum. I have plenty of leftovers, plus I am small. I can eat a lot of ice cream and falafel though (you'd be suprised!)

You're just getting more and more creative. Everything looks great. I'm glad you solved the couscous dilemma. I miss cooking. It's been an entire week since I created anything creative/fun/different. *sigh*

Miriam... Yay! Thanks for showing up. I miss you too and I'm thinking of you and E (and Mr. Marathon Man).

I can't wait until E's around and you are making awesome foods for the FAMILY and everything will be happy. Let the "food whore" return!!!

I'm glad the couscous dilemna is solved too. My creativity has always been here (in fact, Im less now) but now I can show it off.

Hi, Leslie! I missed this blog yesterday (and many other- busy with homeschool stuff)
I made couscous salad last night. I've never used the whole wheat kind before, and I like it a lot better. I think I'm giving away my other couscous!
I put very little dressing- I used fresh lemon juice, dijon mustard, agave nectar, salt, paprika and a little oil. It was so yummy! Hubby thought so, too.

Hi Kai. Your couscous recipe sounds wonderful! I think I'll give that one a try next time. I need a change (even though I just had a couscous-change). I would finally like to make it without tamari. Great ideas!!!

I have to add, when I was scrolling down to see all the pix from this post, my 2 year old said: "Mommy, I want that ice cream, and that and that and that!" (pointing to the snack pix)
