Cereal + Chocolate + Cashews + Almonds + Hemp = Squares

I made Chocolate Hemp Squares from Vive le Vegan last night. I must say, these are so sweet and rich that no matter what your stomach (and/or brain) tells you, one is satisfying enough. Well, maybe two. Anyway, I've been wanting to make this recipe from the very first day Vive arrived in the mail. I always spot out the hemp nut butter at the store but still haven't splurged. Why? I really don't know. After all, I always keep hemp seeds stocked in the house and eat them almost every day, but hemp butter is more expensive (for what it is) therefore I decided to modify the recipe. These bars came out so wonderful and of course, they were no-bakes and super-fast to make.

Instead of hemp seed butter I used cashew butter, and used almond butter as my other. Here's the list of ingredients I used: Nature's Path Gorilla Munch (kids) cereal, cashew butter, almond butter, maple syrup, sea salt, vanilla (all for the base), soymilk and chocolate (topping). I then sprinkled hemp seeds on top (to make it more authentic). I can't get over how good these are. They are super-rich, but not super-dense due to the ground cereal, but super-filling and awesome.

Nut butter and chocolate? How can you go wrong. I keep looking at the hemp nut butter, but like you, for some reason, have just never thrown it in my cart (maybe the price). So, the nut butter alternative sounds good. I like the seeds sprinkled on top. Nice touch!

I agree with you on the hemp seed butter...I have the seeds, but can't bring myself to splurge on the butter. Maybe someday.

These look great!!

Wow those look awesome. The pesto pasta looked really good too.

I'm not sure we can get hemp butter here. Once I did find hemp seeds which I added to a peanut butter cookie recipe. Dang good, if I do say so myself. ---Now I can't get the seeds either.

I haven't cooked up any sweets besides the coconut raspberry bars. Your squares make me want to try something new!

Leslie, lookin' GOOD! I love cooking with cereal; it does make things a little "lighter" and "airier," less dense than if one just used flour or oats, for instance.

Hemp doesn't come cheap; i have never bought it. Maybe someday!

Jess over at Let's Get Sconed has some pictures up, one featuring fried polenta cubes in a dish she had for brunch at a restaurant. It's looks mighty tasty. You should have a look. Might inspire you to come up with something for your polenta.

I've been wanting to try these too, but I can never even find the hemp seed nut butter...mind you if I did I would probably pass it up about 6 times deciding it was too expensive before giving in to the price (why do we torture ourselves?) I just tried baking with hemp seed nuts this week and I was really impressed. I plan on stocking my pantry with hemp seed nuts, hemp seed nut butter (if I can find it!) next time I hit the grocery store. They look totally delicious. I can't wait to try them.

Totally tempting!
And the picture makes me want to reach out for them in the screen, take a piece out and put it right into my mouth.

I wonder how those binary codes would taste like...

I haven't been able to even find hemp seeds anywhere in my area. I did find some hemp seed oil, but thats been it.
Maybe people are afraid of them in this neck of the woods
