Behind the Apron
Welcome to Behind the Apron, presented here by me, Leslie. "Behind the Apron", was created by Fiber at 28 Cooks and is a compilation of bloggers faces, not just photos of our food. This photo of me was taken 1 mile away from the Grand Canyon (the South Rim).
A bit about me: I'm almost 26 years old, I was born and raised in Chicago and moved to Arizona when I was 18. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition (slash Food Service Management) from Arizona State University in 2005 and I love food, cooking and food science. Oh, and eating too. I care passionately about my impact on the world, hence my vegan diet and just my ways of life. I love animals, and all things and people of good nature. I enjoy music, particularly live music, and more specifically jazz/funk and music from around the world (like African drums and music from India). My favorite color is brown, but I don't have a lot of favorites. I like the simple things in life, yet complexity fascinates me too. Oh, and since you can't tell from the photos (unless you know me in real life), I'm barely 5 feet tall.
The photo above is at a music festival selling jewelry and organic aromatherapy pillows, all designed and handcrafted by me. I would love to learn how to crochet/knit one day soon.
And here you have my super cuteness below, Killian. What a guy! Killian is about 4 1/2 years old and about 16 pounds. He is the ultimate fatness and here he is, as per usual, hangin out in bed all day. There you have it... a bit about me.

Hooray, you posted it in time! :) I just got mine up too. It's fun to read about your life--and I love the "action" shot of you at the festival! Thanks for sharing with us!
Lovely photos! Your cat is adorable! Studying Nutrition sounds fascinating...I hope you didn’t have to study a lot of non vegan type stuff. I studied Hospitality Management in college and having to prepare meat/fish was a major reason for me turning veggie... Were you already vegan before studying nutrition or did your course help motivate/inspire you?
Hi Leslie, nice to see you again You are quite short. I am 5'7 1/2" tall. My sisters and mom are 5' 'ish.... somehow I got the tallness.
Hey Leslie, great to see you 'back on the wagon' and thanks for sharing more of yourself with us. Oh and thanks for the gorgeous killian photo too! :-)

Leslie, you are adorable. And I'm sure your passion for food, health, and life in general is very contagious!
Yay for behind the apron! I've had so much fun reading everybody's stories. Your pictures are cool. I would love to learn to make jewelry, it sounds like such a good hobby. And Killian is such a cuties. As the fellow mama of a fatty kitty, I have to say, they are fun to snuggle with!
I must say I find your cat absolutely adorable! He looks like a Maine Coon Cat, not that I know anything about cats but my aunt used to have one and she looked just like your kitty :)
I also wanted to say that I really love your blog and I'm going to link to it on mine because its just that cool :) Its great to see an organic vegan blog too, I eat mostly organic myself and I believe a form of peace is accessable through diet.
Take care;
~Allie

Laura, yeah I posted in time but of course on the last possible day. Oops. Thanks for your comments. (We'll chat soon!)
Scottish Vegan, thank you for your kind comments, and yes, Killian is quite the guy. I did have to study a good amount of non-veg stuff but I only minded it to a point, I learned a lot about aspects I don't study myslef (veganism and anti-eating animals). For all of my food labs my veganism was respected and I never had to eat anything I wouldn't, but I did have to handle and prepare the foods. That was the terrible part. I did learn a lot. Yes, I was already vegan (I have been for about 8 years) and it actually aided me in studying nutrition but here in AZ there aren't any all veg degrees unfortunately.
Dori, hi, it's nice to see you again too. Yep, I'm short and I always have been one of the smallest around. Sometimes it gets to me but I can't imagine being any taller. Then it just wouldn't be me. I don't even try to be taller with shoes (I'd rather be comfortable). You certainly would help me out with the tops shelves of the market.
Diann, thanks for your kind comments as usual. Good to see you around here, I'm always reading your great blog.
Bazu, yay to you too!! I've enjoyed this behind the apron as well. Killian is such a great fatness to snuggle with (he has a huge belly).
Allie, Killian is part Maine Coon. I don't know what else, I rescued him. He is the cutest guy ever! If you were around here you'd see how ridiculous I am around him, that's how much I love him. Thanks for your kind comments about my blog. I'm about to check out yours. Thanks for visiting and sharing.
Woot for behind the apron. I love the kitty! You should definitely look into knitting/crocheting, it's way easier than you probably think. I'm sure you will pick it up in no time.
And hey.. where's Ray? Hehe.
Welcome back to blog land! I love reading your behind the apron.
Ahhh Leslie! You are so adorable! Thank you for sharing.
How cute you are--and Killian, too. Nice to learn more about you.
Hi, love your guy, Killian. It is so cool to read about everyone. I missed the deadline to submit mine. I just kept spacing out. You are lucky your are short. I am 5'3'. When I passed up 5' 2" I cried for days. You see I have blue eyes and wanted to be 5'2" eyes of blue. Silly high school girl stuff.
Hi Leslie!!!
Hey! How did I miss you? I'm 25, vegan and moved to Tempe to attend ASU at 18 in 1999. I went vegan within a month of moving to Phoenix and attended ASU for 4 years. Pooh. I could have used a food-a-holic vegan friend! Funny that I meet you only now that I live 4,000 miles away!
Hi!
Thanks for sharing. I'm right there with you. I'm 5 feet short and my husband towers over me with his 6 foot plus frame. How wonderful, you make jewelry? My daughter is just starting with this and she loves it. Again, thanks for sharing.
how awesome to get to know my friend better! love all the photos of you & of course killian. :o)
